How surfaces look
Primitives and many model surfaces are controlled by three core sliders plus a colour and an optional texture:
- Metalness (0–1) — how metallic the surface is.
- Roughness (0–1) — matte at 1, mirror-smooth at 0.
- Opacity (0–1) — fully transparent through to solid.
- Colour and an optional uploaded texture image.
Start from a preset, then adjust. Glass and metal presets pick up the scene’s environment reflections, which are always on, so they read correctly out of the box.
Metalness 0, roughness 0.85 — a flat, non-reflective everyday surface.
Metalness 0, roughness 0.25 — a clean shine without being metallic.
Metalness 1, roughness 0.15 — a polished metal that shines under the scene’s reflections.
Metalness 0.9, roughness 0.55 — a softer, satin metal.
Roughness 0.5, opacity 0.4 — a translucent, diffused glass.
Roughness 0.05, opacity 0.2 — a crisp, see-through glass.
